What is Chelation Therapy?

Email this Page Email this Page

Chelation (pronounced 'key-LAY-shun') therapy uses an amino acid called EDTA, which is added to the blood through a vein or administered orally. EDTA was first used in the 1940s for the treatment of heavy metal poisoning. EDTA chelation removes heavy metals and minerals – such as lead, iron, copper and calcium – from the blood, and is approved by the FDA for use in treating lead poisoning and toxicity. From the mid 1950s to mid 1960s, chelation therapy became popular as one form of treatment for heart disease. Technology and science replaced this simplistic method for treating heart problems with the advent of heart surgery. Now, many years later, an international research study is testing whether chelation therapy is safe and effective for treating heart disease.

Some of the benefits of oral chelation, according to Garry F. Gordon, MD, DO, MD(H) – world renowned expert in oral chelation therapy – are as follows: helps to prevent Arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), helps to rejuvenate your cardiovascular system, helps to improve conduction in all degrees of A-V heart block, helps to abolish extra heart beats, skipped beats and rapid heart beats; helps to decrease ventricular arrythmias due to digitalis toxicity; helps as a pre-operative preparation; helps remove lead and heavy metals from the system; helps increase American life expectancy; reduces toxic lead and metal deposits and abnormal calcium deposits; reduces blood pressure and blood cholesterol; improves circulation; improves vision and hearing; improves liver function; improves skin texture and tone; helps prevent abnormal cross linking of molecules that age tissue; elps to relieve symptoms of senility by increasing circulation to the brain; helps to relieve paid, hypoglycemia, phlebitis and scleroderma; dissolves fats in plaque lined arteries; helps make blood slippery and prevents abnormal blood clotting; and helps to increase tissue oxygenation.
